ABOUT ME

Hello! I am Sai Swarup Reddy. I am a Graduate Student in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. I currently work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for a Computer-Aided-Engineering class popularly referred to as Toy Design at Purdue University. I also work as a Research Assistant at the Convergence Design Lab at Purdue University in the field of Human-Computer Interactions. Using tools like Mixed Reality, Computer Vision, and Game Design my team aims to improve people's lives in the fields of design, manufacturing, and education. My passion lies in human-centric design and consumer products. The idea of using creativity and engineering in combination to create products that potentially millions can use really excites me.

MY PROJECTS

MiniDog - A Budget Quadruped Robot

The MiniDog is a project that I started along with my roommate in December 2020. We were inspired by Boston Dynamics' Spot and wanted to recreate it but with hobby electronics and 3D-printed parts. This project is a work in progress. Currently, I am working on the mechanical design of the legs and chassis of the robot. I have already gone through three iterations of the design after prototyping the designs via 3D printing and working on the faults. Future plans include implementing inverse kinematics to develop a robust controller to allow for robot stability during movement and external forces. We also want to be able to control our dog via an external controller (an XBOX or Playstation controller). The final goal is to able to take our dog on walk through the Purdue campus.

VeldeR - A Virtual Reality Welding Simulator

VeldeR is a Virtual Reality (VR) tool to enable a user of any experience level to learn the various elements of welding. There are various benefits of having VeldeR in VR - it enables users to learn welding without being exposed to any of the safety hazards that are associated with it. VeldeR also provides the user with feedback on task completion to quantitate the progress of the user. VeldeR offers a modularized learning menu that encompasses the act of welding. These modules allow this tool to be beneficial to all users regardless of their experience level. What makes VeldeR cool is that this tool can be diversified to tackle other skills not just welding.

KicksKleaner - an all-in-one shoe cleaning device

KicksKleaner is my senior design project that marked the end of my undergraduate career at Purdue University. This idea stemmed from our group's collective passion for collecting sneakers. The primary idea behind the project was to provide consumers (specifically sneaker enthusiasts and laundromats) with an all-in-one shoe cleaning device that cleans, shines, disinfects and dries shoes. Since shoes come in various materials that required specific cleaning processes we provided users with an interactive UI to customize the cleaning processes. My role in the team was to integrate the mechanical and electrical systems within the device. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we were unable to make our idea a reality.

Rocket Racers - Arcade style button mashing toy

Rocket Racers is an arcade style 2-player toy that was inspired by the race to the moon during the 50's and 60's. The main objective of the toy is for the player to get their rocket to the moon before the other player. The players were given an option between four different game modes - Button Mash, Whack-a-mole, Simon Says and Gravity Mode. What makes a toy great is its playability and repeatability. With the competitive aspect and the multiple game modes the users could play with this toy as many times as they want without getting bored. Rocket Racers was awarded the Best Innovation Award at the Toy Fair where this was presented. This project is extra special to me because this is where my interest for human-centric design and electro-mechanical systems started.

Personal Website - The first website I made from scratch

I've always wanted to make a personal website from scratch that shows off my passions and interests better than my resume does. Before I started making this website I had zero experience in web development. My main idea behind this website is to make it as natural and casual as possible, I didn't want to make just another resume or cover letter. I wanted this website to feel personal. I still have a bunch of ideas on how to improve this website and I am going to continue working on this to make it a lot cooler.

DESIGNS, IDEAS AND SKETCHES

This section is dedicated to small designs and creations that I do in my free time. Some of these are items that I have designed and 3D printed. Some are concept sketches and storyboards. Others are just me messing around with VR.
